Charis World Book Day 2018

World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly, a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

On 23rd April, 2018, the Primary and Kindy students of Charis International School joined the world-wide World Book Day celebration. The students came to school donning their costumes representing their favourite book characters. In the morning, students had some various book-related activities in their English classes. After lunch, all the Primary and Kindy students gathered together for the special celebration of the said event. Each student presented and talked about their favourite book and their favourite book character whilst wearing their colourful costumes. One of the highlights of the afternoon was the Best Costume Competition. Three winners from the Kindergarten Department and three from Primary Department were chosen by our esteemed judges. All the jubilant winners received a certificate and a prize from the school.

The students got very excited as they took part in an interesting book quiz, wherein they were able to share their knowledge with their group mates. It was great to see students from different key stages working together in various group games and enjoying themselves at the same time. Students thoroughly enjoyed the exciting activities and responded very positively. At the end of the program, each student obtained a certificate of participation and all the groups received their respective prizes.

The Charis International School World Book Day was a successful celebration of books and reading. It became a platform for the students to share their ideas and insights. Furthermore, it also sparked an interest to read in the young minds of the students. Comments from the students have been affirmative and support from parents is encouraging. We are definitely looking forward to our celebration next year.
