Charis Celebrates Seeds of Greatness at 2025 Closing Ceremony
The spirit of celebration and gratitude filled the air as Charis International School hosted its much-anticipated Closing Ceremony on the evening of 17 July 2025, marking the end of another vibrant academic year. With the theme “Seeds of Greatness,” the event was a heartfelt tribute to the growth, achievements, and journeys of its students.
Held in Dewan Calvary from 7:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., the ceremony drew an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 350 attendees, including students, parents, teachers, alumni, and invited guests.
The evening began with a warm welcome by the charismatic student emcees, Andrian (Year 10) and Marshiana (Year 7), followed by the ceremonial march-in. Guests stood in respect as the national anthem "Negaraku", state anthem "Sabah Tanah Airku", and the Charis School Song rang through the hall. The Charisian Pledge was then led by Vice Head Prefect Joy Ngu (Year 9).
The atmosphere shifted from solemn to celebratory with a welcome address by Reverend Teh Yung Huat, a member of the school board, who reflected on the school’s values and mission. Dr. Debra Sim, Principal of Charis International School, then delivered an inspiring opening speech entitled “Reconnecting the Disconnected”, highlighting the school’s commitment to nurturing not just academic excellence, but character and creativity, especially considering the impact of digital technology on the learning and social behaviours of the ‘disconnected’ Gen Z youth and Gen Alpha children.
The night unfolded with a vibrant showcase of student talent:
- Primary Dance Club (Year 3–6) energised the crowd with “High Hopes.”
- The adorable Kindy & Year 1–2 students enchanted the audience with a drama performance titled “The Journey of a Seed.”
- Secondary Dance Club (Year 7–10) fired up the stage with a double feature: “Get’Cha Head In The Game” and “Now or Never.”
- Storytelling took centre stage with Jackson Chan (Year 2) presenting “The Princess and the Frog” and Yong Kurt (Year 5) narrating “The Farmer and the Axes.”
- The melodious Handbell Choir (Year 3–5) captivated the audience with a ten-minute performance.
- An exciting segment on innovation followed, as students Damon, Favor, Jonas, and Mr David Hung shared insights from the AI Charis Hub.
- The Secondary Band Club stirred emotions with a medley of “One Day,” “答案,” and “Shine Like Stars.”
